A Sneak Peak into the Life of Ashneer Grover

Indian Businessman and former co-founder of India’s one of the largest Fintech companies BharatPe, Ashneer Grover was born in a middle-class service family. 

Who is Ashneer Grover?

Ashneer Grover was born on 14th June 1982 in Delhi. His father was a Chartered Account (CA) and his mother was a teacher. Ashneer Grover’s education journey is quite interesting. He completed his schooling in Delhi itself and joined IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Civil Engineering. At the time of his graduation from the student exchange program, he was selected for “INSA Lyon – Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon” in France. He studied in France for the year 2002-2003. 

In the year of 2004, he took admission to IIM Ahmedabad for his MBA in Finance. Campus placements at IIM landed him an investment job in Kotak Investment Banking. There he walked up the ladder and became the Vice President of Kotak Investment Banking. Following this, he worked at American Express, Grofers, and PC Jeweller Ltd. In the year of 2018, he co-founded BharatPe with Shashvat Nakrani and Bhavik Koladiya. Today, BharatPe is the most used fintech application by people.

Ashneer Grover got married to her wife Madhuri Jain Grover at a young age. Before her marriage, she worked as an Interior Designer and worked with some of the famous brands like Alok Industries. During the initial phase of BharatPe, Madhuri helped Ashneer in domains like HR, Finance. They have 2 children, Avy Grover (son) and Mannat Grover (daughter).

One of the largest fintech companies in India, BharatPe was founded by Ashneer Grover, Shashvat Nakrani, and Bhavik Koladiya in the year 2018. They found the problem/requirement in the market and resolved it through their company services. The QR code of BharatPe works with all the UPI applications like Paytm, GPay, or PhonePe. Now, the Merchant needs only a single QR code for all the applications where he could get UPI payments without any additional costs or taxes. In addition to this, Merchants can also keep their money in BharatPe accounts and get an interest of 12%. This was the game changer that attracted a huge part of society towards his company. Merchants didn’t need to pay anything extra to receive their payments in their accounts. 

Shark Tank Judge: Ashneer Grover

Ashneer Grover was invited as a Shark in Season 1 of Shark Tank. He along with the other sharks invested in numerous startups. Ashneer Grover’s investments in Shark Tank are published on LinkedIn. He invested in 11 startups and they all have grown in monetary terms and management terms over the years. He was the second-highest investor in Shark Tank India after Namita Thapar.

Ashneer Grover’s Book

He wrote a book on “Doglapan: The Hard Truth about Life and Start-Ups”. In this book, he wrote about all the hardships he faced while building his business and how the reality works out while building a startup company. Ashneer Grover believes in understanding the logic behind the business and then only investing in it.
